New season smell

A new month equals a new a challenge and what a month we have in store with the main European leagues turning on their engines for yet another campaign. More matches equal more profit making opportunities but also more banana skins and obstacles so it shall be a testing month for sure. Given the fact that the bookie won the battle of July the stakes couldn't be higher.

It shall be a tough upcoming month thanks to the summer transfer window allowing teams to make last minute amendments to their squad, and therefore distorting form and odds somewhat. It's a very intriguing time of the football season and it’s one that I shall be keeping a very keen eye on to see who I fancy for the 2011/12 season. It’s also quite apt that the 1st August represents the date on which slavery was abolished in the British Empire back in 1834 given the fact that players like Luka Modric often refer to their situation as being akin to that of the years prior to 1834. 1st August also represents the birthday of Bastian Schweinsteiger and as I have Bayern Munich on my selections today I have given him the honour of being my picture of the day.

I shall be confirming my special season bets later this week, including my tips for the English Barclays Premiership and nPower league championships and my entries into the various dream team competitions.

In the meantime I have four selections to start the month and will be placing a total of 5 points to try and take the initiative for August. My selections are as follows:

  • GAIS Gothenburg (-1 goal) to beat Halmstads @ 21/20 - Swedish Allsvenskan
  • Kalmar to beat Mjallby @ 8/13 - Swedish Allsvenkan
  • Bayern Munich (-1 goal) to beat Eintracht Braunschweig @ EVENS - German DfB Pokal
  • AaB Aalborg vs FC Midtjylland - Total goals OVER 2.5 @ 4/5 - Danish SAS Ligaen

My 5 points lay will be spread out using all possible TREBLES at 1pt a go along with a single 1pt FOURFOLD. For four correct selections to return would be 37.70pts.

Pinch, punch….
