Luck of a free bacon sarnie and today's football betting tips

A stroke of luck this morning in that I found a £5 note on the train this morning which allowed me to enjoy a 'free' bacon sarnie this morning so hopefully that's a sign of things to come for this evening's betting tips. Afterall we have been on the receiving end of some wretched bad luck of late and whilst some picks may have been a little riskier than usual the vast majority of failed picks I would do again. Either way this morning's early stroke of luck has led me to feel far more enthusiasm for the battle ahead, so therefore I shall have a bet tonight after deciding at the last minute yesterday to have a day off.

Free bacon sarnie? Yes please
I am looking to the Carling Cup ties for some profit tonight and I do see goals in the games between Cardiff City & Leicester City along with Southampton & Preston North End. It's a tricky call as to whether or not to go for the 'both teams to score' market for the Southampton game but given that the odds for that are higher than they are for the game to have three goals or more it makes the decision a lot easier. Both teams are on great form with Preston scoring 12 in their last 5 games, 5 of which were in the two away games, and even though players will be dropped for both sides I can't see either team drawing a blank tonight.

As for Cardiff City & Leicester City well both of them in their last 5 games have only seen one team draw blank from those games with the other 4 having both teams scoring. Leicester have scored in each of their last 5 away games as well scoring 12 in the process. Cardiff, in the 4 home games that they have played this season, have only kept one clean sheet and that was against Doncaster Rovers who currently couldn't hit a life size piñata of Heather from Eastenders if their lives depended on it.

The third game of today's main TREBLE is in the KNVB Beker in Netherlands and in particular the game between FC Eindhoven and FC Emmen. Eindhoven currently sit top of the Eerste Divisie, or Jupiler League, depending on how pedantic you wish to be and thrashed FC Emmen 3-0 at home in the league as recently as 5th August 2011. They have won 4 of their 5 games with a goal difference of plus 8 and couple that with the fact that Emmen have lost their three away games 3-0, 4-1 and 3-0 in the league so far I predict tough times ahead for them tonight. William Hill offer odds of 11/10 that FC Eindhoven will again win by two goals or more.

So to clarify my main bet for tonight is a 2.5pt TREBLE that returns 13.57pts on the following:

  • Cardiff City vs Leicester City - Both teams to score = YES @ 8/13 - Carling Cup
  • Southampton vs Preston North End - Both teams to score = YES @ 6/10 - Carling Cup
  • FC Eindhoven (-1 goal) to beat FC Emmen @ 11/10 - Dutch KNVB Beker

I am also putting a 1.5pt FIVEFOLD that pays out 18.32pts on the three main selections above with the following two picks:

  • Juventus to beat Bologna @ 4/11 - Italian Serie A
  • Malaga vs Athletic Bilbao - Both teams to score = YES @ 4/6 - Spanish La Liga

That makes a total stake of 4pts today for a potential return of 31.89pts.
