Malky Mackay in final + Betting tips for Wednesday

Well last night was almost a comfortable evening but Cardiff City for some reason preferred to hit the woodwork, Palace defence or the crowd rather than putting the ball in the back of the net to make it slightly less comfortable.

Luck favours the brave - Malky Mackay courtesy of telegraph.co.uk
That said they saw out the win in 90 minutes to return us a profit of 18.64pts and that's a good return indeed. To be fair, it's been coming over the past few days and maybe we can get a run together.

Fair play to both managers but ultimately Malky Mackay deserves the credit for being the bolder of the two over both games. I know they lost the first tie but they deserved at least a draw and created far more over the 210 minutes.

Hopefully Liverpool can get to the final tonight, both on a betting (see below for today's tips) and a personal note as I think that it will be a better final for the neutrals.

Today, however, I do not have a definite DOUBLE or TREBLE to return a comfortable profit as it's going to be a tricky day to score decent profit. I do have 3 picks for my main bet though and due to the longer odds we can afford to put less points at stake.

Today's main bet is a 0.5pt TRIXIE that returns a whopping 28.71pts on the following picks:

  • Liverpool vs Manchester City - Draw @ 23/10 - Carling Cup
  • Siena to beat Chievo @ 5/2 - Coppa Italia
  • Barcelona (-1 goal) to beat Real Madrid @ 6/4 - Copa Del Rey
Ok so they may seem a little bit crazy and far fetched when compared to my usual bets but we do only need two out of the three picks to come home in order for us to return a profit. Please see below my secondary bet for reasons behind those picks.

My secondary bet is a 1pt FIVEFOLD that returns 32.74pts on the following selections:

  • Real Mallorca to beat Athletic Bilbao @ 6/4 - Copa Del Rey
  • Barcelona to beat Real Madrid @ 4/6 - Copa Del Rey
  • Inter Milan to beat Napoli @ 2/1 - Coppa Italia
  • Luton Town to beat Mansfield Town @ 4/6 - Blue Square Premier
  • Trabzonspor to beat Eskisehirspor @ 4/7- Turkish Super Liga
That's a total stake of just 3 points today.

Reasons for main bet.....

Liverpool vs Manchester City will, as most would agreed, be a tight game tonight and with Liverpool wanting to bounce back from their humbling defeat to Bolton and City on a high from beating Spurs at the weekend I can see this being a thoroughly entertaining, but ultimately tight game. A repeat of the Premier League fixture (1-1 draw) is my prediction but of course it could go either way given the teams involved.

With Liverpool needing the draw to go through I can see them starting off well early on and then sitting back to defend after snatching the lead on the night. City should be able to score at least one but hopefully Liverpool can see the result out.

Barcelona should beat Real Madrid tonight but I feel that if they score early on Madrid will drop their heads and Barca could end up running riot. I know the games have been closer of late of with Madrid getting abuse from their own fans over their behaviour I can see them trying to play more football tonight and that should allow Barcelona to find more freedom to express themselves and if they do, I can see a 3 or 4-1 scoreline on the cards.

As for Siena to beat Chievo away from home, well this is the stand out pick of the day given that Chievo have only lost once at home all season and haven't conceded since Bologna scored there back in October 2011.

Furthermore Siena have only won twice away from home all season but both of those games were in the Coppa Italia, albeit the 4-4 game against Palermo was ended on penalties.

My main cause for optimism is my gut feeling along with Siena's recent hoodoo over Chievo in recent years. In their 7 most recent meetings since September 2006 Siena have won 5, drawn 1 and have only lost the 1. They have also won all 3 meetings at Chievo and won the last meeting at home, back in October, 4-1 so I am going to have a punt today.

As I said I am going for slightly longer shots today but feel free to take which bets you like and discard those that you don't.

My odds today were taken this morning from Coral as it seemed a change in bookmakers yesterday bought about a change in fortune.
