This morning we were greeted with a small profit of 3.58pts
thanks to the two surviving selections coming home last night (Crawley Town and
Cheltenham to both score & Birmingham to beat Portsmouth). The games at
Stevenage and Gateshead were called off but we will still take the profit,
albeit a small one.

| Redknapp - 4/6 with Coral to be next England manager |
The other news to greet us this morning was the inevitable headline
that Harry Redknapp & Milan Mandaric
were found not guilty of their evading tax charges. Most sane people would’ve
known that they were going to get off given the lack of evidence and the
desperation of it all. That said it can’t have been easy for the two defendants
to continue their day jobs throughout the last 2 weeks, and indeed the last 4/5
years.
Now what does this do for the odds on the next England
manager? Well with Fabio Capello due to meet the FA later today this could
prove to be a turbulent week in English football, although I personally can’t
see anything happening before the European Championships later this year.
Coral, however, are going as short as 4/6 (some firms are
going 1/3) on ‘Arry to be the next permanent England manager and given the lack
of other short odd options you would have to agree with this. Jose Mourinho is
the surprising 2md favourite at 5/1 followed by Roy Hodgson (11/1) , Stuart
Pearce (12/1) , Alan Pardew (14/1) & Guus Hiddink (25/1). Sam Allardyce,
once a forerunner for the job in his Bolton days, is a surprisingly long shot
at 50/1.
I can’t see any one else other than Harry if we are going
for an English manager but if we are happy to go abroad again, which the FA
have confirmed that they are prepared to do again, then watch this space for
Mourinho to take over the job on a 2 year contract until after the World Cup in
Brazil in 2014. He is leaving Real Madrid this summer to return to the UK so I
can see why the odds are as short as 5/1 but Harry would be my preferred
choice. I just feel that the FA might decide that Mourinho is more of a
guaranteed thing.
Who knows.
Anyway, moving on to tonight and it’s a relatively tough
betting market today with good value hard to find.
I have gone for a 2.5pt TREBLE tonight that pays out
16.49pts on the following selections:
- Sunderland to beat Middlesborough @ 10/11 – FA Cup
- VFB Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich – Both teams to score = YES @ 8/11 – German DFB Pokal
- Hoffenheim vs Greuther Furth – Total goals OVER 2.5 @ 10/11 – German DFB Pokal
Let’s see if we can keep this great running going.
