UEFA woes + Tonights Europa League betting tips

Probably the worst so far last night as we continue to take a battering with some the script being totally ignored by the football gods. The odds on last night's final results would no doubt come in at a near astronomical figure and as a result, we are close to admitting defeat to the bookie for the month of September. I shall study hard up until Sunday's matches before making a decision but we are on our limit for the month now so it's always important to know when to take a step back. That said, the vast majority of losing picks did represent value so I can't use hindsight to say that they were bad, we are just merely not getting the breaks today.

Sergio Aguero's replacement Falcao - Athletic Madrid
Today we look towards the UEFA Europa League and it will no doubt be a tricky night ahead but hopefully we can defeat the bookie and get back on track for this month to replicate last month's success. I look first at the game between Athletico Madrid & Celtic and can only see tough times ahead for the Scottish runners up tonight in the Spanish capital. Ok so their league form away from home is pretty good, and Athletico Madrid have hardly set the world alight this season so far but I can only see a comfortable win for Falcao and co tonight.

The reason for this is more for Celtic's miserable away record in Europe, they lost 3-1 to Sion last time out, more than Athletico's record in the competition at home this season but Athletico have scored more than one goal in both European ties this season so dar. Celtic on the other hand hardly ever score away from home in the competition and will no doubt go to defend tonight. So putting Athletico Madrid at a handicap with minue one goal seems like good value to me with William Hill offering EVEN odds for that to be the case. If Athletico get the early goal I think we should see a return on that selection quite comfortably tonight.

My second pick for tonight's double is the game between Fulham and FC Twente at Craven Cottage. In short, I see goals tonight and William Hill offer odds of 21/20 for there to be 3 goals or more and I personally think that it represents great value, particularly as Martin Jol's teams tend to see goals go in at both ends. Both teams will score tonight, Fulham have scored 20 goals in their last 7 Europa League ties at Craven Cottage, conceding 3 goals, albeit with their clean sheets coming against average sides, which FC Twente are not. FC Twente will at least score the one goal tonight so I see it being 2-1 to Fulham but either way there will be 3 goals or more tonight.

So my main bet for tonight is 3pt DOUBLE that returns 12.30pts on the following selections:

  • Athletico Madrid (-1 goal) to beat Celtic @ EVENS - UEFA Europa League
  • Fulham FC vs FC Twente - total goals OVER 2.5 @ 21/20 - UEFA Europa League

In addition to the above, and to try and hammer the bookie tonight, I have also put the two selections above in with the three below to create a 1pt FIVEFOLD that returns 25.49pts:

  • Dynamo Kiev to beat Stoke City @ 4/5 - UEFA Europa League
  • Club Brugge vs NK Maribor - Both teams to score = YES @ 8/11 - UEFA Europa League
  • Udinese vs Rennes - Total goals OVER 2.5 @ EVENS - UEFA Europa League

That's a total stake of 4pts with a potential return of 37.79pts for tonight.
