Underdogs.
Every now and again the underdogs do have their day and we are hoping that today is one of those days but not just for one but for two selections.
First up we have Portugal to beat Spain in 90 minutes and with odds of 7/2 via William Hill I do believe that this selections represents value, particularly as we are not going for a straightforward treble tonight.
Portugal, believe it or not, tanked Portugal at the back end of last year in a friendly, albeit on home turf. However, both sides that started that night will be pretty similar tonight and that might just inspire the Portuguese to reach their second European Championship final.
Spain don't have a great record against their local rivals with both sides winning two each in their last four meetings and the previous three to that ended in draws. Ok so International form is harder to gauge at this stage of a tournament but the bookies are offering £4.50 return for every £1 you stake on Portugal winning a game of football.
This is a team that has had two extra days rest than Spain and a team that contains Ronaldo, easily the biggest goal threat from both sides.
Yes Spain will have possession but that will suit Portugal as they are very much set up to counter attack and with the Spanish defence, despite it's decent record of late, is usually a little suspect to say the least. I am having a punt today.
The second upset today (well hopefully anyway) comes from Norway as Molde host Rosenborg in the NM Cupen.
Molde have won their last nine games and whilst Rosenborg haven't won as many they haven't been beaten in a competitive away fixture since the backend of the 2011 season.
The biggest stat though is the fact that Rosenborg have won the last five meetings between the two sides, three of which were at Molde.
Again it's a bit of a punt but why not considering the luck with the so called bankers of late?
Therefore my bet today is a 0.5pt TRIXIE that returns 27.68pts on the following selections:
- Portugal to beat Spain @ 7/2 - Euro 2012 Semi-final
- Rosenborg to beat Molde @ 12/5 - NM Cupen
- Montreal Impact to beat Toronto FC @ 8/11 - MLS
