Although they may have played their part in our loss last night I certainly won't be too downhearted by Shamrock Rovers' shock away win at Partizan Belgrade which also made them the first ever Irish team to make the group stage of a major European trophy. I for one will put aside my own business to congratulate them on what is a remarkable achievement for a club who were nearly made extinct and were playing in the 2nd tier of Irish football as recent as 2005.

Rubin Kazan, with their multi-gazillions, along with Tottenham Hotspur will be favourites to progress but no doubt they will find Shamrock Rovers' Tallaght Stadium a tricky place to visit. Either way it's good to see a story like this in modern day football, particularly given the demise of the Scottish giants from Glasgow as both Rangers and Celtic bailed out last night along with Hearts of Midlothian.
It also has nothing to do with the luck of the Irish!
Anyway, moving on to this weekend and we are already 58.29pts up for August and I would like to finish the month as close to 75pts as possible so I am looking forward to reaching that target at the earliest opportunity, starting from tonight.

For today I have gone for 4 selections and I will place four 1pt TREBLES across all possible combinations along with a single 1pt FOURFOLD. The total stake of 5pts has a potential return of 34.89pts on the following:

My main bet for Saturday is a 0.5pt TRIXIE that returns 12.11pts on the following selections:

- Shrewsbury Town to beat Swindon Town @ 13/10 - nPower League 2
My secondary bet is on the GOALS GALORE market, and I have a 1.5pt TREBLE that returns 9.33pts on the following to all have OVER 2.5 goals:
- MK Dons vs Stevenage @ 8/11 - nPower League 1
- Cheltenham Town vs Crawley Town @ 4/5 - nPower League 2
- Port Vale vs Southend United @ EVENS - nPower League 2
A 0.5pt SIXFOLD across all 6 of Saturday's selections returns 31.29pts and takes the total stake for Saturday to 4pts.
Sunday 28th August
For Sunday I have gone for a simple 2pt TREBLE that returns 10.15pts on the following picks:
- Hannover 96 vs Mainz 05 - Total goals OVER 2.5 @ EVENS - German Bundesliga
- Nordsjaelland to beat Lyngby @ 8/13 - Danish SAS Ligaen
- Feyenoord to beat Heerenveen @ 4/7 - Dutch Eredivisie
To complete the weekend's betting I have gone for an ambitious 0.5pt ACCUMULATOR across all 13 weekend selections and that would return a handsome 1723.39pts if lady luck would be so kind as to let us get all 13 selections correct!
That take's the total stake for Friday, Saturday and Sunday to 11.5pts but hopefully we can cover that with today's selections alone, as per last week!
